Fill hand decorated glass jars and vases with sand from your favorite beaches!
Materials:
glass jars and vases of varying shapes and designs
dye (Easter egg dye, food coloring, or powdered dye)
glitter or cinnamon powder
a paintbrush, pen or the back end of a wooden spoon
Directions:
This project is an amazing way for the whole family to bring our two favorite places, the beach and home sweet home, together into one jar! It’s tons of fun, super easy and will keep as long as summer on our island! Decorate your living room, your kids’ bedrooms or the bathroom with these decorative summery sand cylinders!
First off, get your kids to “collect” some sand in their beach buckets, next time you’re out for a swim. Just don’t overdo it. We don’t want to negatively impact the environment. Then, separate the sand into as many buckets as you have dye colors. Add the dye, WITHOUT WATER. Mix it up, and voila!
Pour one layer of colored sand into your jar. Then add a second layer of a different color. You can add a layer of glitter or a layer of cinnamon, the latter of which is sure to fill the house with its amazing aroma. You can either leave your vase like that with a horizontal layer design or you can switch it up. Using a long utensil, you can create designs in the sand by making each successive layer wavy, or really high on one side and really low on the other, and then pouring in the next layer. You could also make a hole in the center of the top layer and fill the center with a different color. It’s up to you! The possibilities are endless. Have fun, and we hope you have a great vacation!
