Daily life is demanding which is why we bring you the following 5 simple habits to incorporate into your day to bring a sense of emotional balance and well-being.
Starting the day right
Start your day cleaning your ... mind. Meditation is a great way to do this. Just 10-20 minutes is enough.
All you have to do is find a room where you can be alone, before anyone significant other or your family wake up, before the first cup of coffee is drunk or computer switched on. Sit on the floor with your back straight. Close your eyes and focus only on your breathing. Take a deep breath, feel your chest rise and fall, exhale steadily and slowly, feel each breath all the way to your back. Repeat. Start off doing this meditation for 3 minutes and every 1-2 days, increase by another 3 minutes until you reach 20'.
It has been proven that meditation and yoga are particularly useful tools in treating anxiety. Meditation helps us to control our thoughts and if our goal is happiness and balance, as well as emotional healing, meditation can certainly steer you in that direction.
The benefits of sleep
A healthy emotional state means having healthy mind and for this to be achieved, you need rest. We need at least 6-8 hours of sleep daily, on average around 7. Our body and mind need time to relax from the events of everyday life. It is important to sleep in an environment that has fresh, clean air so as to oxygenate your brain (for this reason you shouldn’t cover your head when you sleep). In short, sleep will make you happy!
Let's get physical!
Daily exercise (be it weightlifting, pilates, yoga, zumba or a brisk walk for half an hour in the park) will benefit you not only physically but also spiritually. By exercising, our body releases serotonin, the so-called "happy hormone". This is the hormone responsible for the euphoric feelings in our bodies, preventing depression. So workout, not only for the physical benefits but for your emotional euphoria!
Meet up with a friend
Daily interaction with friends, even a 5 minute phone call, a message, or a coffee, is essential. Even if you aren’t going through any difficulties (it’s good to share your problems and your thoughts with friends who can help you see things differently or find solutions), the interaction with people who love you and know you well, offers emotional balance and is good for the heart, figuratively and literally!
Learn to say "no"
If you constantly try to do more than you can cope with, you will experience tension and anxiety. If someone at work, in your everyday life or even at home, asks you to do something you often feel you cannot say "no." But if you really can’t, refuse politely explaining why. This is a process that helps you keep watch over yourself emotionally. Know your limits, don’t exceed what you are physically or mentally capable of all the time, and most importantly, find a way of managing your daily challenges. Saying “no” is equally as important as saying “yes” so as to achieve balance in your life and emotional wellbeing.
