Caramelized apples (Candied Apples)
Ingredients: (for 10 apples)
10 red apples
1 cup simple syrup (see recipe below)
3 cups white sugar
10 sticks
1 tsp red food colouring
Method:
For the simple syrup: Add 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar to a saucepan. Boil mixture on a high heat until it reaches hard crack stage and then stir in your red food colouring until it turns crimson.
While the syrup mixture is boiling, line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Wash and dry your apples and then pierce them with your sticks. Then, dip the apples into your red syrup making sure they are properly coated. Place each apple upright (with stick facing upwards) onto your parchment paper to dry. Once properly hardened, enjoy a sweet crunchy apple!!
