Watermelon Smoothie
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Ingredients ( 2 smoothies)
3 cups seedless watermelon, frozen, cut into 1 ½ cm chunks
1 cup milk (or almond milk, soy milk etc)
½ cup vanilla yogurt
3 tbsps maple syrup
2 sprigs mint, for garnish
2 small wedges of fresh watermelon, for garnish
Method
A week earlier, place the watermelon chunks into a plastic storage bag and freeze until ready to use. Take them out of the freezer and put them in a blender. Top with milk, yogurt, then maple syrup. Blend until smooth.Serve watermelon smoothies immediately, using chilled glasses. Garnish with a wedge of watermelon and fresh mint, if desired.
Oreo Milkshakes
Preparation Time: 10 min
Ingredients (2 milkshakes)
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1 cup milk
10 Oreo cookies (or any chocolate sandwich cookie, 2 are for garnish)
1 tbsp chocolate sauce
Method
Place the ice cream, milk, 8 of the Oreo cookies, and the chocolate sauce in a blender, and puree until smooth. Crush the remaining Oreo cookies by placing them in a zipper-sealed plastic bag, and pounding on them a few times with a rolling pin until they crumble. Pour the milkshakes into two glasses, and top each with crushed Oreo cookie crumbs. Serve the shakes immediately, with a straw.
Blueberry Smoothies
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients (2 smoothies)
400g low-fat blueberry yogurt
1 cup ice cubes
½ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
Method
In a blender, add the blueberry yogurt, ice cubes, and blueberries. Blend on high speed until the ice cubes are crushed into small pieces and you have a smooth consistency. Pour and serve. Garnish with a few extra blueberries.
Non- alcoholic sangria
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients (8 servings)
1 orange, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
1 lime, sliced
2 apples, cored and chopped
3 cups red grape juice
1 cups white grape juice
1 ½ cups orange juice
¼ cup lemon juice
2 tbsps lime juice
1 bottle sparkling apple cider (or plain soda)
Method
Layer half of the orange, lemon, lime slices, and chopped apples in the bottom of a glass pitcher. Repeat with the remaining fruit to create a second layer. Pour in the grape juices, orange, lemon, and lime juices. Use a long spoon to gently stir it until well mixed. Cover with a lid or plastic film, and chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight. When ready to serve, add the sparkling cider to the pitcher. Stir gently to mix. Serve over ice.
