Are You Ready For Some Bourbon Sour?

Bourbon Sour is an old school classic Southern cocktail experience that needs to be had.

Kentucky, USA, is otherwise known as the county of bourbon and is where 18th century Scottish and Irish settlers supposedly produced the first bottles of this fine distilled drink.

Unlike authentic Scotch whiskey, bourbon is made from corn, wheat and barley and aged in charred oak barrels, which are used only once.

What we will need: (±8 drinks)

25 ml water

25 ml sugar

50 ml bourbon

25 ml lemon juice

1 egg white

Twisted lemon peel (optional garnish)

Method:

We first need to make a syrup by boiling our water and sugar in a saucepan or pot for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon. Once the syrup has formed, allow it to cool down at room temperature and then place it in the refrigerator to chill for a few minutes.

You are now ready to make your cocktail.  To do this, fill a shaker halfway with ice cubes (crushed or whole) and to this add your chilled syrup, bourbon, lemon juice and egg white.  Then get your bartender skills on and shake that shaker for a good 15 to 20 seconds.

Pass the bourbon sour mix through a strainer into a cocktail glass and garnish with your twisted lemon peel.

Enjoy!
