Candied (Toffee) Apples!

18 November 2015
If there is anything that can take you back to the sweetness of childhood, it’s these easy to make scrumptious toffee apples!

With an irresistible crunchy caramel coating, each bite becomes an out of this world experience!

What we will need: (for 8 pieces)

2 tbsp. lemon juice

300 g. sugar

4 tbsp. water

8 ripe red apples

Method:

To begin, gather your kids around and get them to participate in this super easy and fun experience.

First, wash and dry your apples (with the skin on), remove the stalks and then push a wooden skewer or a fork into the stalk end of each apple.  Leave the skewered apples aside on a baking sheet.

Then move on to preparing the caramel sauce into which the apples will be dipped.  In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, add your water and sugar and boil over a medium heat, stirring continually with a wooden spoon until the sugar has melted.  To this, add your lemon juice and continue to stir for approximately 7-10 minutes, until it turns into what should be a glossy looking toffee syrup.

To be sure that your toffee is ready for the apple dipping, pour a little into a bowl of cold water. If it hardens straight away - and is brittle when removed from the water - this means the toffee is ready.
At this point, dip (and twist) each apple in the hot toffee until completely covered and then place on your baking sheet to harden (making sure that any excess toffee has dripped away beforehand).

Let the candied apples cool down and then get crunching!

Enjoy!
